About Lumatic Visual Devices
Lumatic Visual Devices is a small, independent project focused on designing and building experimental video synthesis hardware for artists, musicians, and visual performers.
We create hands-on tools that sit somewhere between audio and video, designed to encourage play, exploration, and happy accidents. Our devices are built to be immediate and intuitive, while still offering depth for users who want to integrate them into modular, experimental, or live performance setups.
Lumatic Visual Devices is a collaboration between Decadebridge an audio device manufacturer, and visual artist, and performer Mundane Consciousness, bringing together experience in audio hardware design with a shared interest in visual systems, abstraction, creative technology, and performance-focused tools.
Based on the borderlands of Cheshire and Staffordshire in the UK, we design and assemble our devices in small runs, keeping the process personal and considered. We’re interested in making hardware that feels approachable, slightly unconventional, and open-ended - devices that don’t prescribe how they should be used. Our aim is to create tools that encourage people to explore visuals for the first time, while also being robust and flexible enough for professional visual artists working at larger events.
Our first release, Rorschach, is a hybrid analog/digital video synthesizer designed to generate black and white composite visuals. It can be used as a standalone visual instrument or connected to other equipment via control voltage, gates, and audio inputs, allowing sound and signal to directly shape the image.
Alongside hardware, we also offer print-on-demand T-shirts via a third-party partner, featuring designs created by our devices. These pieces reflect the identity and visual language of the hardware itself and help support the ongoing development of future projects.
Lumatic Visual Devices is still at an early stage, but the aim is simple: to create thoughtful, experimental visual hardware that invites curiosity and rewards experimentation. We’re excited to see how people use these tools in studios, on stages, and in unexpected places.
Thank you for supporting independent hardware.
