Synth East, Solid Signals, and Big News for Rorschach

This Week at Lumatic: Synth East, Fixes, and Some Big Smiles
It’s been a big and exciting week here at Lumatic Visual Devices, as we continue developing and sharing Rorschach, our hybrid analog / digital video synthesizer.
Synth East - Our First Exhibition
We’re very excited to announce that we’ll be exhibiting at Synth East on Saturday 21st February, part of the three-day event running 20th-22nd February at Norwich Arts Centre.
This will be our first ever exhibition, and we honestly can’t wait. We’ll be bringing Rorschach along, plus a selection of CRT TVs, so people can get hands-on and really play with it in the environment it was designed for.
This opportunity was made possible thanks to Tim Exile, who unfortunately double-booked himself and couldn’t attend this year. In an incredibly generous move, Tim offered us his table and sponsored us by covering the cost. As a small company just starting out on this journey, that support means a huge amount to us, so thank you, Tim.
There are also some truly amazing companies exhibiting at Synth East, and we’re honoured to be part of such a strong lineup.
A Small Technical Hiccup with Analog Video (Now Fully Resolved)
We did hit a minor setback this week while testing Rorschach with analog video mixers and CRT TVs. We discovered that the composite output voltage was sitting just a little too high above the 1V standard.
In practice, this caused:
- Vertical scrolling on some CRT displays
- Sync issues
- And on certain analog mixers, no image at all - just the dreaded blue screen of death
The good news? This was quickly identified and fully resolved.
By adjusting a few output resistors, Rorschach now delivers a perfect, rock-solid 1V composite signal, working reliably with CRT TVs and analog video mixers. Everything is now behaving exactly as it should, and we’re very happy with the result.
Rorschach in the Wild
In other exciting news, we’re absolutely stoked to see Rorschach featured by:
- Synth Anatomy
- Matrixsynth
- ICON (Japan)
Rorschach is designed as a hands-on video synthesizer for live visuals, CRT displays, and experimental video workflows, and it’s been amazing to see that resonate with people worldwide.
Seeing the enthusiasm and excitement around Rorschach, especially so early on, has been genuinely overwhelming. Thank you to everyone who’s shared, commented, and reached out.
Shipping Update
We’re still on track to begin shipping Rorschach towards the end of February, and we cannot wait to see what you create with it once it’s in your hands.
As always, thank you for being part of this journey with us.
Big love,
Lumatic Visual Devices
