Rorschach Update: Orders Shipped, Demand Surge & What’s Next
Share
It’s been a few weeks since our last update, as we’ve been fully focused on getting Rorschach orders built and shipped.
The good news is that all orders placed before April 7th have now been shipped, including both prebuilt devices and DIY kits. It’s been a big push, but it’s great to see Rorschachs arriving safely with their new owners.
A Surge in Demand
On April 7th, DivKid released a review of the Rorschach video synthesizer. The response was immediate and far beyond what we expected, with a significant surge in orders following the release.
Since then, we’ve been working flat out to keep up with demand.
At the moment, every Rorschach, whether prebuilt or DIY kit, is assembled by the two of us, alongside our full-time jobs. We’re incredibly grateful for the support, and we really appreciate everyone’s patience while we work through the current order queue.
The good news for people who have ordered since April the 7th is that the DIY kits will be starting to ship this next week, and the prebuilt devices are now in production, although it will be a few weeks before we are able to ship all of these.
Scaling Production
Rorschach has grown faster than we anticipated, and we’re now actively looking at ways to increase production capacity.
This includes exploring options such as:
- automating PCB assembly with pick-and-place systems
- outsourcing parts of the manufacturing process
- improving internal workflows and batching
Our aim is to scale responsibly - maintaining build quality while reducing lead times.
Retail Update
We’re also excited to share that Rorschach is now stocked by the awesome:
Both have demo units set up in their showrooms, so feel free to head there to experience Rorschach before purchasing.
Both retailers have already sold out their initial stock, and we’re currently working to replenish inventory as quickly as possible.
Rorschach in the Wild
With more units now in circulation, we’ve started seeing some incredible content from users.
From studio experimentation to live visual performance, it’s been inspiring to see how people are using Rorschach in their own setups.
You can check out some of these in our Instagram stories and highlights.
Display Compatibility Testing
We’ve had a small number of reports of certain display devices struggling with Rorschach’s low-resolution signal.
To address this, we’ve started testing a range of displays and AV-to-HDMI converters to identify the most reliable solutions. We’ll be sharing recommendations soon to help ensure smooth setups across different environments. It seems there has been some kind of change to the way that the converters we have been recommending that may result in an intermittent signal.
If you are having any issues, please feel free to get in touch and we can attempt to help you diagnose the issue, it may be worth contacting us via our other email address lumaticvisual@gmail.com or via our contact form as there is an ongoing issue with emails being sent to hello@lumaticvisual.com which is preventing some customers from sending emails to us, our provider is working on resolving this - It may also be worth checking out our FAQ's
Superbooth
Colin (@mundaneconsciousness) from Lumatic Visual Devices will be in Berlin next week for Superbooth.
We’re not exhibiting this year, but he’ll be there taking it all in. If you spot him in a Lumatic Visual Devices t-shirt, feel free to come and say hello it would be awesome to meet you, (warning, a few customers have also said that they will be wearing their Lumatic Visual Devices T-shirts to Superbooth too).
Thanks
The response to Rorschach so far has been incredible. We’re working hard to get all orders out as quickly as possible, and we really appreciate the support and patience from everyone who’s been part of this.
More updates soon
Big love
